I recently bought 2 large pieces of manzanita. Earlier this week I broke off some branches to use in my smaller tanks. Boiled for quite a while and then put one in a 2.5g. Today I noticed what looks like dark fuzz on a couple of the ends. Any idea what this is? And should I take out the wood and try to remove the fuzz?

It's likely a fungus, it happens with almost all wood and it should go away after a while.

How can I get rid of it? It's not extreme, but it certainly makes some of the branches look fuzzy.

What? Why'd it say minecraft??!!

And to get rid of it, some snails may eat it, or you could peel/scrape it off with your hands.

Thanks for the replies, it's gone now. Just wanted to make sure it wasn't harmful in any way. And the minecraft comment really make me curious
