Dechlorinating Drops?

Do you recommend putting dechlorinating drops in the tank? I have a 5 gal Marineland. Tank has been up and running for a week. I have 1 guppy and 1 Molly along with a moss rock and two live plants. Went to the LFS today and he said our water nitrates were high which is to be expected cause we are still waiting for the bacteria to grow and bloom. But I just never know about those dechlorinating drops. I feel like they are just trying to throw them in to get my money lol!

Forgot to mention I use tap water to fill the tank and I live in downtown Chicago.

You need to use something to remove the chlorine or chloramines that are in the tap water.

I use Seachem Prime usually.

Yes. Chlorine kills fish.

If your nitrates were high, your tank is cycled and you need to do a big water change.

Fish output ammonia ...
... Bacteria 1 turns ammonia to nitrite
... Bacteria 2 turns nitrite to nitrate
... Human servant changes 50% of the water weekly (to remove nitrate and for other reasons) if not more
