Hi. I came across some rocks that I got a a yardsale that had a test kit a python water changer some other ornaments in a box for 5.00. I have a freshwater tank, the bag of rocks say reef rocks. Real fossilized coral rock , ideal for marine & hard water aquarium great for reptiles too. The only directions say rinse in fresh water and place in tank. Is something like this safe for a freshwater tank? Thanks David

Safe is kind of a relative term. Most reef rock is a calcium-based rock and in freshwater, over time, they will break down and alter the water chemistry. Typically reef rock will raise the pH. If your goal is a freshwater tank with a higher pH, then the rocks are perfectly safe and exactly what you are looking for. If on the other hand, you wish to have a more neutral or acidic tank, then they are not what you are looking for.
