Diatom ****!! my tank looks awful!!!

I got brown algae on EVERYTHING! I thought diatoms are supposed to go away after a while? Its been 4 weeks since I noticed them and they keep getting worse? Any suggestions as to how I can help clear this up?

THX

By frequent water changes eventually the diatoms will perish. But it can take a while. Is this your [acronym:30a34417e2="Saltwater"]SW[/acronym:30a34417e2] tank?? Then you should post this there! I was almost going to advice you to get a [acronym:30a34417e2="Siamese Algae Eater"]SAE[/acronym:30a34417e2], but in [acronym:30a34417e2="Saltwater"]SW[/acronym:30a34417e2] they won't be much good :P

Ottos are wonderful for brown diatom algae. It's their main diet.

Aquariums are like jello - there's always room for more.

I thought it was your [acronym:aa12500daf="Saltwater"]SW[/acronym:aa12500daf] tank since that was the only thing in your signature, sorry about that. Ottos are indeed great algae eaters as well as Siamese Algae Eaters.

[acronym:34ea538606="Chinese Algae Eater"]CAE[/acronym:34ea538606] are not a good idea for a 10gal, and are in general not a good choice if you are looking for a hardworking algae eater. [acronym:34ea538606="Siamese Algae Eater"]SAE[/acronym:34ea538606] might also be a bit big for a 10 [acronym:34ea538606="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:34ea538606]. If there is any way your [acronym:34ea538606="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:34ea538606] can get otocinclus for you, they are the way to go, or a pitbull pleco, which remains pretty small.
