Dirty tank

Having tank problems. About 6 months ago removed the under rock filter. Now I have algae all over my tank. Glass, glass, everything. Is it because of the filter removal. Or something else. Have a good filter, just not doing it. Any ideas? Scott.

I doubt it would effect algae growth that long ago. Have you changed any lights?

What is your photoperiod?

Tank size and filter?
Filter media?

Is the water green or just growing on stuff?

I love my fish!!!

Welcome to the forum!

Sorry to hear of the algae issue. It is likely from a dirty tank, could be from over feeding, (phosphates) and light.

Tell more about the tank, size, lighting, inhabitants, plants, substrate type, water changing habits how often and how much and what foods do you feed?

Main reasons for algae in a tank:

1. Lack of water changes. (build up of excess nitrates)
2. Over feeding (self explanatory)
3. Too much light each day (8 hours is about right)
4. Excess nutrients (usually in planted tanks)

Can we get some pictures? For starters I'd do some PWC's.

You need to explain a little more....

Removed the "under rock" filter, did you mean an under-gravel filter?
Are you running any filters now and if so what type?
Tank size, water changes how often?
Your stock?

Algae usually builds up from poor water conditions or too much light or both.
