Just wondering, instead of buying a cantister filter.... I already have a reef ready tank. Cant i just use a micron sock on drain to sump and clean it every few days. And get some pot scrubbers and throw that in sump for bio filter. Heaters, thermometers and maybe even some chemi pure elite in high flow area just incase.

Im wondering if this wouldnt work or if canister filter will be better.

Yes sump is better since it can do all the things you mentioned. Since you already have holes in the tank, then you're halfway there. If you're doing a high-tech planted tank, then canisters are more useful.

Thanks. Not doing plants at all. Just sand driftwood and earth eaters. I feel its soo much easier to deal with filtersocks than canisters.
