I have been growing pond snails in an essentially dark 5 gallon garbage can. Do they need light what-so-ever? I know the would potentially need light to grow algea to eat but I feed them carrots.

they need no light really, but lgiht for algae does help as a supplemental food source at least. buggest things I have found in raising snails, make sure the pH of the water is kinda high. too acid or not enough calcium in the water and their shells erode.
