will any type of driftwood work to lower the pH, or is there a certain kind. i've been scoping out ebay to try and save money, and found some stuff from a river in montana, will this work??

If you harvest your own just be sure that it is not an evergreen tree. Otherwise it is probably okay. Just soak it to death or boil it, since it came from a FW source it could have FW parasites or nasties aboard.

how can you tell if it is from an evergreen if it isnt mentioned?? and what will evergreen do?

Evergreens contain resin that is toxic to the fish, but that is an excellent question - I don't know if I would be able to tell what kind of wood it was, unless it was obviously red like cedar or something.

Tough call! Maybe if you post a pic someone can identify it, or maybe you know someone who could. Tricky. :?

I think I'll play it safe and not buy any driftwood unless it is stated what type it is. thanks!
