Howdy. I bought a large peice of driftwood from Petco today.

Do I need to boil it, or is that only for driftwood found in the wild?

It should be fine to put in your tank. I usually boil mine or pour boiling hot water over it just to make sure its sterile. If its one of those pieces of wood thats plastic all you need to do is give it a rinse. If it's a real piece of wood, sometimes leaving it in a bucket of water for a couple weeks helps it sink better, but than again if it has a piece of slate attached to it it should have no problem staying down.

usually stuff bought from petco is pretty ok if you just rinse it first... i bought some and boiled it anyway just to be sure. It's really up to you, but as long as you rinse it you should be a-ok.

I didn't even boil mine, just soaked it for 3 weeks and put in the tank. I got it from Petco also. Good stuff.

If you start to get a lot of tannins, run your filter with some AC. It will take some of it out until the leeching slows down.
