I got a peacock eel last week and i was wondering what i should be feeding him, he doesn't seem to be eating what they were feeding him were i got him. and how can i tell if he is eating? he almost never comes out from hiding. i have a tire track eel and i can hand feed him feeder fish. but he doesn burro like the new one. any help would be appreciated.

thanks. :onfire:

How big is the Eel? What type of "Cichlids" are in the tank? And a Moorei and Peacock? A 10g seems a bit small, especially for the fish in the tank 8O

This has been discussed a few times recently, to find out what to feed the Eel, do a search for:

peacock AND eel

the peacock is around 4 inchs
the moorei ciclid is and inch and a half
the jacobferbergi is close to 2 inches.

the only reason i put the jacobferbergi in the tank is because the morrei was freacking out when the eel was no where in sight. i tryed to see if is was because he was lonely and but the jacob in there and as soon as i put him in there they both seemed to be happy they are close to the same size and never get more than 2 inches apart. i know it is a small tank got an eel and ciclids but. they will be geting moved in to a biger tank here soon. i want to put the 2 ciclids in my ciclid tank.

and what i have found about peacock eels is that they burrow and they feed around dusk and like to eat adults will eat ghost shrimp, small live foods such as crustaceans, earthworms, fish, crickets, mealworms, blood worms, glass worms, brine shrimp and tubifex worms. insect larvae, small pellets, flakes. frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, beef heart, plankton and glass worms are also accepted.
i have tryed some of these and in the morning there are still a lot of food in the tank and it hasn't been touched... I don't want to leave food in the take because it will give it an amona spike. then that is a problem in it's self.

here are the like that i have found my info. (O:

I was reading the sig like you had two random Cichlids AND the Moorei and Peacock Cichlids :p

When I first got my peacock eel he wouldnt eat either, I tried everything, I finally had to hand feed him live blood worms. Once he found out they were yummy, every time I fed the tank he would come out to see what was going on... then my LFS stopped carrying the live blood worms... so I tried frozen, freeze dried, feeder guppies, they never made it to the bottom before the barbs nailed em. after about 4 weeks of not eating, I figured he would die soon and he wouldnt eat anything else... I tried freeze dried tubifex cubes... and he LOVES them... I stick the cube right on the glass, he will even take the worms out of the Gouramis mouth... Brave little guy I finally have him on the tubifex cubes full time and hes picking up weight. I had no idea these guys were supposed to have a little girth, my poor little guy is so skinny, but hes starting to fatten up, very active and even a little feisty. He will take food out of my hand. also BE CAREFUL!!! they are escape artists... I had him in my 10 tank while I was treating everyone for ich, and he made a home in the HOB filter... Thank GOd it had a top on it. I now have every hole sealed off on my big tank, saran wrap & packaging tape
Good luck and dont give up on him!!!
