My eheim ecco 2232 is somewhat new and I had some questions on maintenance because the manual doesn't give the best instructions out..

When I replace the carbon pad every few weeks or do any work on it (cleaning the coarse pad) and switch the hoses on and plug it in, a bunch of gunk (bacteria?) spits out into the aquarium. It's not a huge problem, but annoying in any case. Can anyone give me some tips or advice on how to minimize this? I'm still a beginner at this so pardon my lack of knowledge 8)

Give your media and media pads a good rinse with dechlorinated water before replacing them, and make sure your hoses are nice and clean inside before replacing them.

Yeah, I think it's coming from the hoses....I haven't cleaned those yet and I'm sure there's lots of exciting stuff building up in there :p thanks.
