So we rehomed our shark and picked up a nice small golden ram
We noticed as SOON as the ram was placed in the tank (still in bag) our electric blue was fixated on it. Not in a bad way but excited almost. His color tripled And the gold one went from irratic and pale to bright yellow and calm. They literally stared at each other until I released him. As SOON as he was released they started flashing. I've asked this question before and did tons of reading and still can't come to the conclusion of what causes this. I realize at time after feeding some fish will flash. I believe its food just caught in their gills from spitting. Then other times it's just excitement. The gold and blue started doing it together. There is NO way a fish spread anything that quick.
It just nuts to me. I've read some fish just flash to scratch or the equivalent of a cough.
I've been conditioned to think this is always bad and means to worry but honestly latley I'm just looking the other way.
Levels all great. Water change just done and heavily planted.
