feeding fish.. tubifex worms?
i usually feed my fish tetramin tropical fish flakes once or twice a day, and freeze dried blood worms once or twice a day. I also drop in 2 Hikari tropical sinking wafers for catfish, loaches, and bottom feeders twice a day.
All of this of course depends on my schedule, and is never really on a regular basis. I feel like i want to give them more of a variety, so i bought some tubifex worms, stuck it on the side of the tank. They didn't even try to eat it! a couple of the gourmis bit at it once or twice, but the next day the cube was floating on the top, so i removed it. If i broke some pieces apart they would eat it, but the rest went to the bottom. I don't think im overfeeding them, no trace of ammonia when i test the water. Also, they go crazy over the flakes and bloodworms. Will my bottom feeders eat the tubifex that fell? Is it even really good to feed them? What other types of food do you reccomend for the fish I have, especially my loaches. [acronym:26ea5661e5="Thanks in Advance"]TIA[/acronym:26ea5661e5] |

I'd try feeding them 1 or 2 types of food in small increments twice a day. And vary this every day. For example, what we do in the 150 is:
Monday: Tubiflex, Tropical Flake, and Pellets Tuesday: Brine Shrimp, Tropical Flake, Peas Wednesday: Tubiflex, Pellets, and cichlid flake Thursday: Blood Worms, Cichlid Flake, and Zuc Friday: Pellets, Brine Shrimp, Cichlid Flake Saturday: Peas, Cichlid Flake, Pellets Sunday: Zuc, Pellets, and Tubiflex This varies of course, but always feed a variety. Never more than what they can eat in 2 miuntes. Anything that isn't eaten in the 2 minutes is taken out. The tubiflex shouldn't be left in the tank overnight. You could break it apart and drop it into the tank in pieces, that's the only way our fish will eat it without hogging the entire thing for 1 or 2 fish.

For some reason, I have never been able to get my fish to eat the freeze-dried tubifex worms. I found that they will eat the frozen tubifex worms. They will also devour the frozen bloodworms. Too picky for the freeze-dried stuff, I guess.

Then I'd either stop feeding it to them, or give it to them first and not give them anything else until they eat it. This way they know it's food. Sometimes it takes time for fish to start eating a new food. I don't have that problem with our Cichlids because they would eat a rubberband if I threw it in there. I would just stop feeding it to them if they don't take it after a week.
