Female and Male betta

hey i just got a new female and male betta . You can see the pics here:
http://www.aquariumadvice.com/viewto...242&highlight=

i have the male in his own 5 gallon and the female is in my community tank

anyway.. i really want to try a hand at breeding these guys. So.. ive read about it and i think ive got the idea of how its done.. any thoughts, suggestions from someone who's done it successfully? do i wait till the male starts building a bubble nest to add the female or what? You keep the male and female close to each other but in separate containers. The male will begin to create a bubble nest and eventually the female will show vertical bars on her body and the male will be showing off to her. After about 3-4 days of this activity and the male has created a bubble nest, try putting the female in. This can go either way. The male can attack her or keep showing off to her and they'll breed by like swimming around each other in a circlish thingy and then just pair together with the male wrapped around the female. If all goes well the female should lay eggs, but be cautioned she may try to eat them and if the male doesn't get them then you'll not have any babies @___@ he'll be very defendant of the nest if he does put the eggs up there though.

I've never actually had babies but I have had my female lay eggs before. That's what I remember from how to breed bettas but I'm no expert on it. I found that stuff on betta talk I believe ^^;; hth

ooh i just added the female and he's flairing at here, but he's not hurting her.. he looks like hes showing off. I am going to keep a close eye and take her out if he gets too aggressive.

That's a good idea O_O my colored male flaunts with my female but he RIPS her tail fins off, I made the mistake of putting him in my tank yesterday when I went to go clean his and she's got a whole in her fin now. They will flare at each other but if they get violent..they get violent *eyes stinger*

From what I understand though, they will flare at each other but as long as they're not killing each other I think you're safe

Are they in the 5 gallon tank? I see in your sig that it says "gravel bottom". Of course that's fine for a regular tank, but for a breeding tank, you shouldn't have any substrate. The male needs to be able to find the eggs on the bottom of the tank and put them up in the bubblenest.
