I would like to know the best method for filtration on a freshwater tank...
a wet/dry filter?
a canister filter ?
or both ?

Are you planning to have plants with CO2 injection? A wet/dry probably provides the best pure filtration, but it has down sides to it if you're trying to keep things like CO2 in solution.

For a 150 I would have 2 cannisters or one cannister and a wet/dry filter. Planted tank I would have 2 cannisters.

If you want good filtration for a good price then a Hang-On-Back (HOB) filter is the best. I use AquaClears myself.

For 150 gal tank you would need more than HOB's. I run a fluval 404 and FX5 on mine. And they still get very dirty. Esp if you are going to stock with a messy fish like cichlids for example.
