Filter Media replacement help

Hi Guys, I've had my Fluval U2 filter running nearly 3 months in my Roma 90 litre (20 gallon) tank, I cleaned out the filter pads and rinsed the micro fibre canister part (good a lot of crap cam of them) and the pads felt like the were going a bit hard, still soft to squeeze out etc but gooing sort of crispy on the edges (only way to describe it) so I'm just wondering how often I should replace the pads in the filter and how's the best way to go about it?

You only replace those when they are falling apart. I just rinse mine once a month using old tank water when I do a PwC.

Oh right cool, well there no where falling apart so guess there fine, I have been doing it once a month so this is the 3rd time I have done it, and yeah wash the out in the dirty tank water.
