filteration

do i need 3 step filteration for a cichlid tank on a 32 or do i need to get something like an a/q my budget is limited.

FWIW, I only use two stages in all of my tanks (mechanical and biological). The chemical (activated carbon), is not used. I just took out the charcoal and replaced with additional pads and/or bio media. I don't know of any filters that provide that off hand.

i solved my problem i got 2 filter sponges and bio rings and put it in a filter and it works fine i added a spare carbon that i had because i needed to make the media a bit higher. so its all good and works great. any tips on cycling a new tank?

Sponge and ceramic noodles work great or even bio balls. i like to add filter wool aswell it tends to polish the water better. they will all work with an AC HOB

I use 2 sponges, with bio-rings and floss in my AC's.

To speed up the cycling process, squeeze out some used filters/media into the new tank. Siphoning some muck from the gravel of an established tank will also help seed a new one.
