Finally rescued the goldfish!

We finally got my step mom's goldfish into a bigger tank. Some before and after pics, the new tank still has some air bubbles but that is easy to care for. The old tank was 15 [acronym:6f99987d87="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:6f99987d87], the new tank is 44 [acronym:6f99987d87="Gallon"]gal[/acronym:6f99987d87]. I used the old filter and substrate and some of the water. Her parameters before the change were ammonia .25 [acronym:6f99987d87="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:6f99987d87], nitrite .25 [acronym:6f99987d87="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:6f99987d87], nitrates over 120 [acronym:6f99987d87="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:6f99987d87], that is as high as the tests would go and the color was BLOOD red. After the move, ammonia, 0 oom, nitrites 0 [acronym:6f99987d87="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:6f99987d87], nitrates 20 [acronym:6f99987d87="Parts per Million"]ppm[/acronym:6f99987d87]. The goldies and pleco seem much happier.

Wow!! Quick Q: Did you slowly introduce the goldies to the tank with perfect water parameters? I'm glad to hear they are doing well, but keep an eye on them in case they don't adjust well to the new tank. It sounds stupid, but going from bad to good can be as disasterous as going from good to bad.

Yes we did it slowly, I added water to a bucket with the old water, let it sit for 20 minutes added some more then put them into the tank after another 20 minutes. I also told her to watch them carefully and keep the lights out for the night. The gold one was swimming around looking for food already. [acronym:ac0e6274d4="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:ac0e6274d4] little pigs that they are. The pleco seemed not to care that his surroundings had changed. She will let me know if they seem stressed, and I am going over there tomorrow to check on them. I can't believe they survived for so long in those conditions.

Amazing creatures! I'm glad to hear it was done slowly and I'm sure they will come through the tank change with flying colors.

Good going!

I'll bet their colors will intensify now that they're in better conditions.

Thanks everyone. I went to check on them and they are moving around the whole tank. I didn't expect them to get adjusted so fast. I guess the water quality is such an improvement they are giddy! [acronym:85545a28df="Laughing out loud"]LOL[/acronym:85545a28df].
