First time breeding Bettas
Hello! I have a male and a female betta in a small divided tank. My intention was to have fun trying to raise a batch of fry so I plan on breeding them. Well, my female is fat with eggs and has gotten her verticle striping and swims with her head down towards the male and everything, and my male seems interested in showing off for her from his side of the tank and is interacting with her all right, but he's not building a bubble nest. They have only been together for two days, and because the tank is so little, I do 50% water changes daily.
My question: Is there a way to encourage him to buid a bubble nest? Or should I just wait it out a little longer?

Do you have a plant in with him? My Betta didn't start building a bubble nest until I put a tall (reached surface) plastic plant in with him. Might have just been a coincident, but it can't hurt.
Good luck! |

No, I didn't have any plants in with him. I did just move him to a larger aquarium with fake plants and a gentle filter. I also gave him a plastic ring that I cut from a disposable cup in which to make a nest. He did make a nest, however, I discovered he had tail rot and am treating with medication. I'll wait for a few weeks before attempting a breeding now. Thank you for your help!

In my experience, you need some kind of structure for the male to make his nest...let us know what happens after the sicky is well
