I bought a 40 gallon i have 4 goldfishe and pleco

I hate to have to be the one to tell you this, but you are way overstocked. 40 gallons is enough room for two fancy goldfish and nothing else. If you have common goldfish, 40 gallons isn't even enough room for one. They need at least 55 gallons each, but do better in ponds. Depending on the kind of Pleco you have, it may or may not be ok in a 40 gallon. If it is a common Pleco it needs at least a 100-125 gallon tank. A 40 is too small for the Jack Dempseys as well. It could maybe house one by itself.
