fish advice needed

I have a 55 gallon tank that I had 2 small oscars in but the died and I did not realize that the oscars would need an even bigger tank. So I am now looking to get some more fish but not oscars. I want to get some fish that are colorful in like blues and yellows and maby some stripes and spots but I do not know what fish have these qualities. If you could please give some types of fish that have these markings please post up.

Thanks
Mason

Gourami's come in blue, gold and tons of other colors. They would do well in a 55gal tank.
Here are some listed at liveaquaria.

Gouramis would be a great choice. If you want more cichlids though, you should look into African cichlids. The Malawi mbuna are very colorful and active and you would probably like them a lot. I've never kept Africans and don't really know what species to recommend keeping together, but you could do some research and find out more about them. www.cichlid-forum.com has a lot of articles and info on them.

In regards to African Lake Malawi Cichlids, Yellow Labs are bright yellow, Electric Blue's or Johanni's have strips and are blue. Cobalt's are a bright pale blue, Acei's are bright purple and yellow. The options are really endless.

How about Rainbows?

Peaceful, you can get quite a few of them in a 55 gallon tank.

Check out the Boesemani Rainbow here:

Yes, the African Cichlids are very colorful and bright and a 55 gallon tank makes a very nice home for them.
I have one myself with electric yellows and blues.

you might also consider lots of schools of small fish like I have in my tank. It makes for a very interesting community to watch.

If you are looking for color, peacock cichlids are the best. although they aren't colorful when real young, the adults become very bright, and there are yellows, reds, and blues. and those are just the common colors. they are in the species Aulonocara
this is a link to many pictures (scroll about 3/4 the way down the page, it will be under the category peacock
