fish and theft detectors

Why does walmart tell you to hold fish over the theft detector?

They work by using radio tags on the items and a reader at the door.

It may have something to do with the radio waves?

I dunno but my local pets at home has these detectors and I don't have to lift mine.

most of my fish are from walmart and was told almost every time I purchased fish to hold above theft detector while exiting
