I was wondering if the color of your rocks and yoyr lighting will dull your fishes color out?

It can. White substrate can cause some fish to appear very pale as they try to match. I prefer black or dark substrate for that reason.

But I'm told black substrate is bad for Discus as they may darken too much when they are babies ??

Your lighting can affect how the fish appears to your eye. Certain light improve how they look.

Cause i have 2 green terrors, 2 convicts and 2 blue gene/gold dempseys and i have white rocks. All of them look like they are fading in color. Should i ditch the white and go darker? I have black but not enough to cover the whole bottom. Will it still help if i mix in the black?
