So I’ve had this guy for a year and a half or so now, it came with a bunch of Rummynose Tetras.

At the time I got it, it looked basically the same, though it’s bulked up a little. It’s a bit longer than the rummynose, but definitely a bigger build. There’s not really much color to it at all, just the black spot on the tail. When I asked for ID help when I got it, the responses were mostly “let it grow a up and ask again,” so I’m asking again :)

Looks like a Gold Tetra to me. They lose their gold color in captivity breeding and are silver, which is probably what you got.
 
I had a school of them years ago (one I had for 7+ years). Not the most colorful fish, they can be timid at times.
Wild caught specimens have a gold spot on the top of their head. Supposedly due to naturally occurring bacteria in their habitat.
