So my tank water is getting cloudy after a week of test running.
There is no fish or gravel in the tank. Just water and no heater.
I am testing my DIY trickle filter overflow system. The water is straight from the tap.
Any ideas on why it's getting cloudy?

Tanks often get cloudy during the nitrogen cycle. This is most often due to blooms such as bacterial or diatoms. It will clear up after a while on its own.

Do you know what the nitrogen cycle inside an aquarium is? It's very important you understand this process.

Was the tank and all the plumbing/filter cleaned out well?
Did you keep the system running 24/7 during test?
Many subscribe to beneficial bacteria being present in our air and settling in our tanks like/with dust.
Most of the cloudy water we encounter is from over feeding ,but is still the same bacterial imbalance many associate with cycling(not really part of cycling though it is common for many).
Is it possible some aerosol spray may have been used in same room as tank?

Yes and no on the first question. The tank was clear for the first 3 days then it got cloudy.
As stated above there is no gravel or fish in the tank. So that eliminates the over feeding.
I let the system run for a week. Just wanted to see if it leaked at all.
No spraying of chems as I have cats.
