fishless cycling a new tank

i'm fishless cycling a 16 gallon tank. everythings up and running and i've added a statue and a rock from an established tank. i set my ammonia up tp 4, had to add to it once and now i'm at 3ppm. my nitrite is 5.0 and my nitrate is 0. am i on the right track ? if so what should i be watching for now ?
i do have live plants in the tank.
