former Baby Betta identification

Hi, I picked this one out from petco because it was swimming sideways and kept plundering to the bottom of the cup and thought for sure it was a goner. I wanted to at least give it a comfortable end. To my surprise, after a pea, heated tank and lots of attention, it is still alive four months later! i'm trying to find out what s/he is, gender and breed. We adopted a crowntale male at the same time who is now smaller than this one, so size isn't helping as far as gender identification!

Here are a few pics since i could not get one full one. Still has a little trouble with sinking so i keep the water level just above some plants so s/he can rest on the plants and be near the top to breathe. s/he has a very good appetite and is responsive when i walk near the tank.
