Found Driftwood in Near lake

Hello people, I just found these pieces of driftwood in the local lake and it had some type of slimy algae on or at least I think it was, I let them sit out in the sun for a week and was wondering if they were safe to use. Thanks in advance!

Soak them in boiling water first and then they should be good to go

yeah, boil them first, and then soak them for a few days to ensure your water stays clear

How big are the pieces? It looks like part of an edge could be splintered? Correct me if I'm wrong about that
