Freshwater Lionfish....

Agreed...they seem to do best in at least mildly brackish water.....ambush predators that are safe with nothing that will potentially fit in their ample mouths.....but, aside from swallowing, they almost never even move.
 
I was looking to do it as a brackish tank, and not full marine. Wonder why they say they can be kept in freshwater.
 
Because, like many brackish water fish, they can exist in freshwater for short periods of time, but usually do poorly in it after a few months.
 
They do that to alot of fish. Like the "freshwater" eels and gobies. They can tolerate the fw for a while but brackish is idea. I believe it has to do with the fish coming into fw streams/estuaries for breeding so the young tolerate it better. Something like that. :wink:
