Freshwater Skimmer

I am a Saltwater owner and I am currently in the process of starting a freshwater tank as well, what I would like to know is would I need a skimmer for my freshwater tank ?
Ive got an extra one lying around somewhere here and was curious to find out if I should need to use it.

I have been keeping Fresh Water Tanks for years, but never herd any one puting skimmer in Fresh Water tank, I don't think it is needed.

Because of the chemical composition of the water in a FW tank, a skimmer really wouldn't work anyway.

While you can use a skimmer on FW, I don't think you're going to want one. As Allivymar said, it won't work very well. You make up for the difference in water by increasing the size of the skimmer. According to what I've read, the smallest skimmer that will function on FW is about 6' tall. Foam fractionation (skimming) has been used in wastewater treatment for years.

no you dont need one but a good canister filter would be nice
