GBR Rapid Breathing, or is this normal?

If I were you, I wouldn't treat for ich unless I was certain.
Yeah, it sucks to lose them. Keep an eye on the male and the water params. You can always try again if you think the water params are good. Like eco said, rams can be this way.
If you want to try Bolivians instead, go ahead. They are great little fish. I love mine. They can still be sensitive, but not quite so much as the Germans.
 
The male is still going. He is still browsing the tank, and the colors appear to be good still (hard to tell with the tank lights out, though). I think I will leave the lights out one more day for him.

I would really like to try to breed them. I may get another female if this male fares well, but, I want to make sure this male does OK before I go there. Does a month sound reasonable, or should I wait longer? I know some people say they are monogamous, so breeding may not happen, but, hey, I'll give it a shot.
