general hardness at 300

Took same water to the [acronym:7465e7ac82="Large polyped Scleractinian (stoney) coral"]lps[/acronym:7465e7ac82] to get tested while I was out, and the general hardness was measured at 300. Is that a problem for my fish? They seem like they are doing well to me. What is a good hardness value to shoot for? This may explain the calcium buildup I get on my hood. Also, why should I do to lower the hardness if needed?

300ppm is about 17.5gKH.. it is somewhat hard.. it should be good for your livebears though, wich you have mostly.

Check the water hardness level of your plants (what they can tollerate) at this site...

mine is between 150-300 and my plants and fish do fine
Not a real concern unless you have wild caught soft water fish or are breeding discus, things like that.
