I've never bred this species but I would think you'd need a tank of least 55g.
Danios are egg scatterers. A female laden with eggs will be obviously plumper. A good diet should assure bringing the fish into condition. I always moved any egg scatterers I wanted to spawn, to a seperate breeding tank first thing in the morning. The breeding tank bottom was covered with java moss or marbles to catch the eggs. Two males per female maximizes egg fertilization. The males will chase the female, she will begin dropping the eggs, and the males will do their job. Filling the tank to the half way mark allows the eggs to reach the substrate before the fish can catch and eat them on subsequent passes. This technique works for all egg scaterring fish including tetras and barbs. |

i've heard it's best to use about 3-5 inches of water above a marbel covered bottom "breeding" tank for the best results.
