Glue in tank- What kind?
I wanted to know what kind of glue you can use in a tank. I've heard it has to be like silicone or something? Asking this because my neighbor was thinking about setting up a freshwater tank (he already has three [acronym:a2c46ef924="Saltwater"]SW[/acronym:a2c46ef924]) and he was talking to my dad about it and when my dad talked to me about it, my dad told me my neighbor was thinking about hot-gun glueing driftwood together (great sentence).

Only use aquarium safe silicone. That means it has no fungicides or colorants added. I've used AllGlass brand, but it's a bit expensive. You can try getting clear silicone sealant at the hardware store, but read the label carefully to make sure it has no additives - just 100% silicone.

Or epoxy putty made for aquariums (usually used in marine aquaria)...available at most LFSes that stock marine.

not recommending it or saying it's safe, but I used hot glue to attach a piece of driftwood that I could not get to sink, and I haven't seen any problems or had fish die.

So does anyone else think that the hot glue would be ok?

High-temp hot glue would probably be safe, but would not hold as well or as log as the others mentioned.

Ok. So I'll tell my neighbor to get some 100% silicone with no additives.

I do agree, I've used it before, but it's holding properties are a little weak. If you have the patience for the silicone to dry it's the way to go.
