I have a 45 gallon tank that's completely cycled. In it I have

2 powder blue dwarf gourami
5 gold barbs
5 serpae tetras (I wish I could take these out)
3 oto cats
1 albino bristlenose pleco

I know it's pushing it for a 45 gallon tank, but even though I'm the one taking care of it it's a family tank for my mom, my dad, my little brother (13 yrs), and I. They wanted two little shoals instead of one made of 6 or 7 individuals of the same species. I wish I could take the tetras out and maybe add one or two more barbs...but I'm not so sure now. I think they're starting to turn aggressive.

I've noticed the barbs nipping at the gourami, at least three of them will go up to one and harass it. Last night I also found that my pleco (a tiny little baby maybe about 2 inches) has a torn find and some pink splotches on it. I know they can tear their fins on decor, but I'm fairly certain the pink spots are bite marks.

Are the barbs turning aggressive because the tank it close to being overstocked? It it an "I need more room" thing? If so, would removing the tetras help calm them down?

I don't want poor Stubs (the pleco) to get hurt even more. :(
