Golden Algae Eater
Hello!
I have a Golden Algae Eater, and I wondered if anyone else has experience with them. Mine is fairly young, but growing! I have heard they get meaner as they age [sort of like me], and was told to get 3 otos instead. I wonder if my [acronym:82091956dc="Local Fish Store"]lfs[/acronym:82091956dc] will take my CAE back... What are your opinions? |

From what I've read, they can grow up to 1 foot. Better keep an eye on him!

You don't really need an algae eater in that tank and 10 gallons is too small for anything excpet ottos. However, I would not get ottos either as they really need planted tanks to thrive. I would just add a few more tetras to your school. The gourami will munch at some of the algae anyway.

Thanks Skiltrip. [My buddy
tkos, I have a 29 gallon tank, and thanks to my friend I have plants now, and Im going to add a fern. I think I may get 3 Otos. I just hope the petstore will take the GAE back... what else can I do with him? I've kind of grown attached. |

I hope the store will take it back too ... maybe you can find someone in the NY Regional forum that will adopt him, or trade you another fish? If it does really grow to a foot then that is costing you 12 inches or 12 gallons on the 1 fish per gallon rule, which is a lot
----- I put the larger of my two plecos in my parents pond ... I don't know what I'll do with it once winter arrives, my other pleco is somewhere in my 29 gallon, lost in the jungle. maybe it will live in the sump of my new freshwater setup, it can help keep the algae out of that area, since they like the dark |

Sorry I was just reading your profile which still says 10 gallon. A 29 gallon is much better.
