I didn't know that cichlids could read Seriously, if you can find them I suggest "American Cichlids II: Large Cichlids" by Staeck and Linke as well as "The Cichlid Aquarium" by Loiselle. The first book is one in a series of four that the authors did on cichlids from both the old and the new world. There is a lot of information on breeding, habitat, feeding, etc. The second book has extensive information on the setup, furnishing and maintenance of cichlid tanks as well as the various species. I purchased my copies of these books from used book stores on Amazon.com.

As far as magazines go, you can't do any better than Tropical Fish Hobbyist in my opinion.

Try here for a decent list of cichlid books. The books that gheitman referred to are also listed. Most can be found at any decent book retailer, including Amazon.com and Barnes and Noble.

TFH is gold.
