GORGEOUS Blue Beauty!
Can anyone identify this fish? It appeared on a pic and is in a planted community aquarium. Thanks!

I assume you meant that it appears to be "on" Garden Web-yes, I know, I posted it there.

Very nice fish...it is a cichlid of some sort, but just what, I am not certain.

Yes, it's a very nice fish.
If you see an image that doesn't show up (like garden web) just visit thier site and it will show up after that. |

Neon Blue Jack Dempsey? I saw some the other day at a [acronym:da2e3615ed="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:da2e3615ed] and they looked a lot like this.

No-wouldn't be that. This is a croped pic from a community planted aquarium. I don't thank the owner would put a jack dmpsey with rainbowfish and gourami. Any other ideas?

Here is a comple of links to a neon blue jack dempsey:
http://www.aquariumfish.net/pages/new_pictures_8.htm http://fins.actwin.com/species/index.php?t=9&i=250 It sure looks like it to me but I could be wrong. Edit: they are sometimes called the electric blue jack dempsey. From what I read, this variant is smaller that the regular JD so it could be your guy. |

Definitely an Electric Blue Dempsey. Pretty fragile fish. I had a couple and they never bothered anything in the tank (plants or other fish). I had a very tough time keeping them alive so I decided to stay away from them.
