Gravel or sand?

Well from what I've experienced, all of my algae eaters, no matter what kind, have preferred sand over gravel. I put my fish in my tank with gravel first everytime and they're much more active over sand.

I have a 10 gallon with a betta and 3 mystery snails. I wish I had started it with sand instead of gravel. The snails crawling over the gravel make it impossible to keep anything planted.

I've recently changed over and live sand. My corys are playing and digging more much more fun to watch them rubbing thier faces in the sand lol. The only downside is that the poop etc stays on the top and I end up vacuuming every other day or so, or it grts dirty looking
