gravel vs. sand

How long did it take the sand to settle?

I have a 35g and i filled it before bed and when i got up it was clear

Do you use an under gravel filter with the sand or the filter that sits on the back of the tank? I've have been thinking about going switching to an under gravel filter and sand, I didn't know if sand was good on an under gravel filter

I have a old sponge filter on my 35g and a internal filter on my 10g.
The internal filter is not doing so good from the sand so will have to be replaced soon, but the sponge filter is still working amazing after many years ahah and I will be replacing my internal with a old sponge filter too.
Think ill be sticking with the back sponge filters now ?
