Happy Birthday/Mother's Day to ME!

What would be the best gift a Mom could ask for and actually get.....that's right, a big fish tank. It's a 90 gallon that can be used as a salt or freshwater tank. My husband is going to build me a beautiful teak cabinet with draws and hooks for all of my supplies. Right now I am planning on setting it up as a fresh water tank. I have a 10 gallon which I really want to change to a quarentine tank and move all the fish over. In the 10 gallon I have:

1 dwarf platy
1 gold dusty molly
2 melini cory cats
1 serpae tetra
1 oto

I plan to move the oto to my daughter's 15 gallon tank and buy one or two more for her. All the others I want to move to the bigger tank. Please help me stock.

1.I would like to add more melini cory cats, maybe 5 more

2. add 2-3 tetras. I really don't care for the serpae tetras so I just want to add the minimum.

3. Add a fancy pleco but I have no idea what would be a good size and be goodlooking.

4. Add Red Torpedo Line Barbs (don't know how many I can have)

5. Gouramis ( any suggestions)

6. Rainbows (any suggestions)

7. Will my dwarf platy and gold dust molly be OK with this setup? My gold dust is pretty agressive but I'm a little worried about the platy being dinner for one of the new fish. He is about one inch big now.

8. Any other suggestions? Can I get more bottom feeders? Am I on the right track?

I would appreciate anybody's advice.

Then don't add any. Give the tetra you already have a good life with goods foods and swimming room. I don't believe in keeping fish you are not crazy about.

Clown plecos, albino bristle nose, and there are lots more. Those are the more commonly available ones.

I don't have any experiance with those barbs, just make sure they are nonagressive, or the gouramis and rainbows will be nipped.

Ah, rainbows! There are big ones and small ones. I have Celebes rainbows and absolutely love them. They have fantastic finage and shoal together at the top of the tank.

For a 90 gallon, you can have an entire herd of cory cats. Remember, stock what you love!

I can't see the platy becoming a snack. If the molly is already agressive, she may calm down with many other fish or try to become queen of the tank. If you are worried about her, keep her in the 10, until the 90 is cycled and stocked and then add her, after the other fish have a chance to get comfy.

1. Sounds good
2. So why don't you bring the tetra back to the [acronym:4fa0957a80="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:4fa0957a80]?
3. You could have just about any pleco in a 90 gallon. If you want small go for bristlenose, clowns, rubberlips. If you want large go for 1 common or 1 royal.
4. Don't know anything about them
5. Either dwarfs or the bigger ones you have to choose
Dwarfs include the honey gouramis.
By the bigger ones I mean Pearl, Blue/Gold/Opaline, Snakeskin, Banded (AKA Giant).
6. Go look up some rainbows and see which you like
7. Not sure
8. Yes to those last 2 questions.

In a 90 gallon tank, I think the best looking pleco you can even get is a royal. Anyone that has one knows what I mean. They look amazing.

Congrats on the new tank. Big tanks give you so much more leeway in fish choices. The full size gouramis seem to have more personality than the dwarfs. Check out the bolivian and blue rams. The blues are prettier but the bolivians are hardier . I would go with one of the smaller variety pleco. Good luck and keep us posted on your progress, pics. etc.

Thank you all for your opinions. I am going crazy here because I recently had surgery and can't drive yet and really don't have the energy to go to my [acronym:57c6557593="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:57c6557593] to take a look around and start really planning. So the internet is the next best thing.

1. About 2 months ago, I had columnaris in my 10 gallon. I lost 2 tetras and a cory cat. Everyone is doing great now but my lonely tetra is a little discolored so it would not be such a good idea to return him. And besides, I worked so hard to keep him alive, I wouldn't have the heart to give him away. Maybe I'll just add a couple of more and keep him them in the ten gallon.

2. I saw the red-line torpedo barbs in an [acronym:57c6557593="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:57c6557593] one day and fell in love with them. According to the [acronym:57c6557593="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:57c6557593] and the research I did on the internet, they are peaceful. I will talk to my main [acronym:57c6557593="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:57c6557593] and see what they know about them.

3. My Molly is a boy. I will take your suggestion and add him last. I don't understand how such a cute and handsome boy could be so aggressive but he is part of the family and I love him.

4. I may not be able to move most of my fish over except for my cory cats. I guess I will wait and talk to my [acronym:57c6557593="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:57c6557593] first about the redline barbs and see what they know about them. I think they are absolutely striking and would really like to have them. I have about 4-6 weeks before the stand will finished and then the decision on how to cycle my tank after that so I have plenty of time. Although, I wish it was ready yesterday!!
