I have a heater on my 30G but I can't tell how many watts it is? It seems to be on an awful lot. Is there a way to tell by hz and volts how many watts it is? It says 50-60 hz, 115-120 v?

It is an older heater says Fritz pet supplies. I don't have it turned on to the max as I'm scared of frying the fish.

That just means is plugs into North American outlets, so it does not tell you anythinng. Setting the heater up or down has zero effect on how much power it uses. Heaters are either full on, or off. They stay off until the built in thermostat detects a temperature drop below the threshold, then it is full on until the tank warms.

Heater failures are a leading cause of fish death. I would just throw the heater away and get a new one if you are worried about it.
