heating a 1 gallon tank?

To be completely honest, I don't think a 1 gal tank is adequate for any fish, including a betta. I doubt you will ever be able to keep the water completely constant, thus you will continually stress your fish. Maybe buy one of those bambo trees or something and use it for that instead.
