I'm new to this Hobbie and am very confused by the cycling.what should the normal test readings be??

I'd link if I could, but check the sticky on the Freshwater/Brackish-Getting started forum. There are links to both fishless and fish-in cycling methods that do work. Quite detailed and easy to follow, I've followed the fishless and it works perfectly.
