hope i gave anough information..

newish aquarium.. 52us gallons fresh water . i did all the cycling stuff for over a month now..
i have 3 green tiger barb ( 1 died on the move to the new aquarium), 2 mollys, 3 albino ancistrus, 2 guramies, and 3 young corydoras julii.
not over stocked at all.

i was doing the cycle with a 1200 L\H internal filter.. all went well except one thing.. this dust like particles floating in the water that i cant get rid off..
i thought swiching to a canister filter atman Ef-4 rated for 1200 L/H will help but it didnt.. working for 5 days now..
got media in it without carbon (sponge, filter floss, and poly fill . the water is better quality now but the dust particles are still there.. + i got an oil film on top of my water.

i will also add that i feed them like kings.. alge pages: tetra min and JBL spirulina, sometimes hikkari blood worms, and hikkari sinking wafers for the cory. the amount i give them is eaten in 30 seconds.. except the wafers who takes alittle longer..

added pics and video for you to see.. i tried in my country forum but no1 could give me a good answer.. <3

That backdrop is very neat, but it makes it hard to tell what the dust you're referring to is.

If it's cloudy white, it's probably a bacterial bloom. Those clear up with time and water changes.

Did you use media from your cycled filter?

its not really cloudy water, the water are sort of very clear.. but with particles in it..
and bacterial bloom after so long.. =\

and yeh i used the media from my cycled filter.. even let them run in the same time till yesterday

hope i cleared things up.. literally ;)

yep got a lid on .. belive me if i knew what this dust it i would get rid of it myself ;)

maybe i found the problem..

could it be my 3 live plants? i can see gray micro hairs on them that detach if there is a strong current near them or touching them..

Well-maintained planted tanks tend to have clearer water, in my experience.

I have simaler in my tank, (cloudy water and tiny brown hair on plants) the stuff on the plants might be Blackbeard algae, try using leaf zone and C02

Could it be microbubbles from your filter discharge? Are you sure you purged all the air from the filter lines?

problem not solved, added another video.. pls help :(

A couple questions for you? What is the substrate? Is it new?

The dusty fuzzy film looks like some diatoms. Maybe some algae.

Many times particles from sand will not be rinsed enough and cause cloudiness too (two issues not rinsed enough substrate and/or just getting diatoms from new set up) .

Get a 100ml pouch of Purigen and add it to the filter. The sand particles etc. should get bound and removed from the water if it is from the substrate.

If the greyish fuzzy dust remains it can take awhile which happens sometimes in a new tank. Then one day soon it should disappear.

As for the oily film it is really annoying and generally you need more surface aggitation. Try the Purigen first. It might go away.

Also up the frequency of pwc.

actually, i just added 100ml yesterday :D i hope it will make things better,
if by pwc you mean water changes, i do them every week.

about the gravel, its new.. but i washed it very good with boiling water and a strainer :)

no idea what this things is, first time i had this floating dust..

Correct on pwc.

Good, it is nearly like magic for water clarity.

Foods, maybe try backing off on the quantity of food for a week or two. Not starving the fish but reducing maybe 1/3 on most feedings. Maybe try dividing the reduced amount of feeding into am/pm times.

Also for light, try having a siesta period for the tank let it turn off mid way in the day by a couple hours min. This has worked for me. There are debates about lighting as far as one can see (or argue).

Personally I think there is some differences in the color spectrum of light as well which can have something to do with it. That is a whole other very long back and forth too, lol!

I have set up so many tanks I can't recall the numbers over the years, and had diatoms (dusty brownish like on the sand) only one time for a couple days which is fortunate. Usually running low light. But have had the fuzzy grey stuff a couple times.

Try upping the flow on the filter to max, also maybe consider an extra pwc per week for the next few weeks with the reduced feeding and split photo period.

Thanks for your help :D
i will try it for a couple of weeks, i hope it will disappear.
tho i am trying so many things at once, i will never know what actullay worked :lol:

That's okay. As long as it goes away ;)!

You can always later start conducting scientific experiments if you get so inclined and share all the info here.
