HELP- figure 8 puffer FW

hello all.

so we have a 10g cycling...we are putting in a figure 8 puffer.

The place we are buying him from doesn't have him in brackish water...the have him in FW with aquarium salt.

We want to put him in brackish water with sea salt but don't want to put him into shock.

Should we just put him in FW with a low salinity and gradually raise it?
 
Test water daily. Change the water as needed to keep ammonia and nitrIte zero.

Are you using marine salt mix? That is what you need. Brands such as Instant Ocean is very common in fish stores.

Cycle your tank is freshwater since its cheaper to do the water changes with fish-in cycling. Once cycled, raise salinity levels by no more than 0.002 per week until you reach the desired salinity level.

Best practice is to premix the water with salt because all marine salt does not mix instantaneously as advertised. Most people use a clean trash bin, powerhead, heater, and refractometer to mix the water before pouring into tank.
