help identifying this botia
My [acronym:7c84677078="Local Fish Store"]LFS[/acronym:7c84677078] listed this loach as a "striped" loach, botia striata, but to me this loach doesn't look like botia striata (as pictured on www.loaches.com). I'm gussing Botia rostrata, but does anyone have any idea for sure?

thanks
thanks ... can anyone tell me what the difference is between the rostrata and the yo-yo? I have some larger yo-yo's that I've had for 2 1/5 years and I just got these rostratas ... in some respects ... these look like the same fish ... although the colors on the rostrata are much more distinctly black & white. My yo-yo's look a little grey

Botia almorhae gets the common name of 'YoYo Loach' because its pattern often seems to spell out the word 'YoYo'. You can see it pretty well in the picture of one of my loaches below (though this one is an over-achiever and actually spells out YoYoY
![]() Botia rostrata has a much simpler pattern and the stripes don't usually split into the 'Y' shape dorsally.

Oh....on quick examination it is also fairly easy to confuse Botia rostrata and Botia (Sinibotia) robusta as well. Here's robusta:
![]() Note the pointier nose on robusta and the significant difference in the caudal fin pattern.

The Yo-Yos are great fish, very active. Mostly bottom feeders, but mine go everywhere.
