Today I found two millipedes in my garden and threw them in my established #20 goldfish tank. I thought they would make a really awesome fresh treat. After about 5 minutes I had a change of heart took them out. I did a little research later and saw that perhaps they could be toxic. Luckily my 3 goldies didnt eat anything, but i did notice a clear fluid coming out of one of the pedes while floating in the tank. I'm terrified I poisoned the water or worse, my beloved goldies. Anyone know anything about them? thanks:[

Millipedes can secrete a toxin as a defense mechanism. That is why nothing really eats them. It can irritate human skin. Do a large water change and things should be fine. It isn't deadly per say. Just causes irritation. It pays to be really careful what you put take things from the wild.
