I guys i have a 55 gallon with about 30 fish 6 plants i have a fluvel 406 and a cascade filter on it i having high levels of ph and nitrate i got an r/o system to help with ph and i am thinking about building a wet/dry filter or an nitrate coil to help with the nitrate. which one would do the best job or is there a better way. i am thinking about turning my flow down on filters to grow more bacteria please and thanks for help :)

seems like a lot of work for a 55 gallon tank. My 55 has 20 fish, no live plants, with one cascade 700 filter and the nitrates never get above 20ppm. I do 50% water changes weekly and that seems to keep the nitrates in check. What is your ph level? Mine is 8.0 and my fish don't seem to mind. I was thinking about getting an r/o system but then you have to put some nutrients back in the water. I think those weekly water changes would be the easiest way to go.

Water changes of 70-80% are best for reducing nitrAtes. If you still have nitrAte issues you maybe over stocked.

I was thinking that to that's y i was think about building a wet/dry flier to add water to the tank

Then y do nitrate coils exist

Apologies, I meant filtration in general does not remove nitrates. Specialist equipment does exist which can but I wouldn't classify a nitrate coil as 'filtration' personally.

You might also want to check your tap water for nitrates because if you have high nitrates in your tap WC water you will never get them down. Do you have any plants in your tank? Many fast growing plants use alot of nitrates and help keep them down.

No way you'll keep your nitrAte levels down with that stock short of daily water changes.

I am thinking about getting a 75gl for my sliver tips. What do you think i should keep in the 55
