Homemade decorations

I have this dream of doing a Dr Seuss themed tank at some point. I know there are a small handfull of Dr Seuss ornaments made by TopFin, but that's really not enough to satisfy me. I want to know what materials are/are not ok to use in an aquarium so I can buy other toys/fake plants, or make my own decorations.
Also curious if things like Lego structures are ok for tanks.
Lastly, what have all of you done on your own to personalize your fish homes?
